Our Engagement

"I may not be a smart man, but I know what love is."

The Story...

Christmas Eve was, as usual, an incredible evening of amazing food, great company, lots of alcohol and a loud game of Trivial Pursuit!  We had a blast and were so exhausted we passed out once we made it to bed.  (Even me who still acts like a kid waiting for Santa to come!!)  Marc is usually yelling at me to go back to bed on Christmas morning.  But this year Marc had me awake soooo early!!  He couldn't fall back asleep, so he decided we should just get up and open our presents as we usually do before everyone else arrived for the second round of presents.  The four of us (of course Harley and Smokey were there :) sat in the middle of the living room floor to open our stockings.  Marc made me open mine first.  When I got to the bottom of my stocking and I pulled out the box, I turned right to Harley and told her how excited I was that Marc must have bought me the earrings I had asked for.  HA!  Marc told me to open it, so I did.  When I saw the ring sitting in the box my jaw dropped and I was speechless (I am NEVER speechless)  Marc asked me right then and there in our pj's on the living room floor if I would marry him.  And I responded the way I respond to everything.  I cried!  And cried and cried.  I think I got a good five minutes of sitting on his lap crying before I could say or do anything.  It was absolutely wonderful!  And absolutely perfect.  After I calmed down a little we got very excited about being able to tell our families and we couldn't wait.  Problem was, none of them were even awake yet :)

The Answer...

Getting so caught up in our happiness and the excitement of our news, it wasn't until later that night that Marc told me I had never actually answered his question.  I thought crying like a baby for so long might have given it away ;), but just in case he wasn't sure, I told him my answer was, Absolutely!!! can we do it now?!?!?

My favorite part of our engagement story is how Marc asked me.  It was exactly 25 years to the day that my father proposed to my mother.  Mom got her ring in the bottom of her stocking as well!
